Pair of 19th Century Chinese Hong mu hardwood side tables featuring stepped display shelves. The panel tops above recessed friezes and aprons, raised on handcarved legs ending in shaped feet. The pair showcase richly textured, decorative handcarved features throughout.
The age of this pair is apparent by their weight as well as their hand-constructed joints. Carved pieces such as these are held together by complex mortice and tenon joinery. This sophisticated joining system creates seamless transitions between horizontal planes and vertical supports.
Both tables are of solid construction with a gorgeous warm red/brown patina to the wood.
