19th century Italian Grand Tour large roundel depicting the Roman emperor Vitellius. Inscribed VITELIO, the figure is carved in high relief in white marble and set against a porphyry background bordered with a lapis-lazuli blue-dotted guilloche pattern. This is a fine example of a high-quality classical souvenir that would have been produced by an Italian artisan in the 18th and 19th centuries for a discerning aristocrat from Ireland or Britain making the Grand Tour.
