Late Georgian Statuary marble chimney piece, circa 1780-1820, featuring intricately carved bas relief Bacchic scenes. The stepped shelf, of breakfront outline, rests above a central frieze decorated with charming vignettes of putti participating in various grape-harvest scenes. The end tablets to either side display handsome youths representing Bacchus or his acolytes. The jambs display swagged neoclassical urns from which bunches of grapes descend vertically to meet the carved footstones. Exceptionally, the mantel has the original engraved iron and brass grate made to match it.
