18th Century pair armchairs after Giles Grendey with pierced splat back, stylised shell motif and scrolled armrests with relief carved decoration. The upholstered seats rest above carved cabriole legs with scroll and acanthus leaf decoration terminating on hairy paw feet.
Giles Grendey (1693-1780) was one of the best-known cabinetmakers of his time. Based in Clerkenwell, London, he enjoyed enormous success as a cabinet and chair maker supplying furniture to many prominent country houses.
