Rare 19th Century set of three unusually large Grand Tour oval Carrara marble plaques featuring relief profiles in bronze of Julius Caesar, Caesar Augustus and Hadrian. All three are enclosed by specimen samples of precious stone inset in black ebonised frames. Circa 1810.
These types of plaques served as personal souvenirs for travellers on the Grand Tour during the early 19th Century but were also a symbol of great wealth and knowledge.
