19th Century Statuary Marble Figure of Sophocles circa 1810. The famous Greek tragedian stands erect, exuding dignity and gazing towards Posterity, with a canister of scrolls at his feet. The statue is after a marble Roman copy held in the Vatican Museum, Rome, of a bronze Greek original circa 4th century B.C.
