This medieval tableau is set by the priory gatehouse at Bolton Abbey, West Riding, Yorkshire and shows an Augustinian abbot and monk receiving tribute of game. A forester with two dogs kneels beside a dead stag, swan, duck, grouse and partridge as a falconer’s assistant carries a dead heron and bittern and a fisherman’s daughter brings trout.
