19th Century Painting titled “Who Stole My Supper?”, by the English artist Edward Armfield (1817-1896).
Armfield is renowned for his paintings of terriers and sporting dogs in particular. This picture depicts a humorous scene featuring a pair of Terrier dogs in a stable, clearly outraged at the discovery of their empty dinner bowl from which, presumably, one of their mortal enemies, stable vermin, has recently pilfered their supper. The dogs’ expressions and physical positions suggest that pursuit of the offender (or offenders) is imminent.
