Early 18th Century Irish fossilized marble topped side table above moulded frieze of geometrically carved blind fretwork supported on sinewy cabriole leg with scallop shell, scrolling acanthus, bell husk and C scroll with flower head on knee, all carved in high relief terminating on exaggerated ball and claw foot.

Provenance: Trinity College, Oxford.

The distinctive marble is characterized by the clearly evident presence of the fossilized prehistoric marine life forms of orthoceras and ammonites which lived between the Silurian, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods
(65 – 435 million years ago), and are visible throughout the marble.
