This early 19th-century English Georgian chinoiserie secretary or bureau bookcase features two mirrored doors opening to three shelves and a slant-front desk with folio racks and drawers, all above three long drawers with brass batwing handles and escutcheons. The japanning decoration includes gold-painted figures, flora, buildings, and landscapes on a black lacquered finish. The interiors of the desk and bookcase are painted red, black, and gold. With a broken pediment, slide-out candle shelves, and ogee feet.
