The form of the table is classic Regency, but it is made with an exotic wood almost never seen with this form. The oval top rests on a turned pedestal, with four outsplayed legs that end in brass caps with casters.
Macassar ebony is named for the port city in Indonesia (often written Makassar) from which it was exported. This distinctive species of the ebony family is found only on the island of Sulawesi and has historically been used in traditional Japanese building.
