Depicting rural mountain and lake scene in France of a shepherd minding his flock of sheep. Charles Emil Jacques was part of the 19th Century Barbizon School. The Barbizon School was heavily influenced by John Constables work, particularly after Constable exhibited in the Salon de Paris of 1824. Jacques was later a follower of the Barbizon School went on to develop impressionist movement.
