Robert Sanderson was a Scottish artist based in Edinburgh who specialized in genre scenes, often depicting working-class life, bustling harbour scenes, and street life, frequently exhibiting at the Royal Scottish Academy. The urban scene depicts a city dweller perched before a wall in the foreground, a small glimpse of the cityscape peaks through the background.
