Item Description

Early 19th Century Donovan Plate, James Donovan & Sons, Dublin. Donavan was a successful retailer of porcelain in Regency Dublin (garnering the nickname β€˜the emperor of China'). The company imported blanks primarily from prominent Staffordshire potteries that were then decorated by hand or transfer printed at the Dublin premises. This plate is decorated with a water lily pattern in iron red and blue on a white background reminiscent of Chinese export wares of the period.
