Item Description

19th Century Canton Chinese Export Rose Medallion porcelain chestnut bowl with lid featuring painted interior scenes of figures, birds and flowers with gilt highlights and raised enamel detail throughout.

Popular amongst the French aristocracy, referred to as a Marronière, this type of bowl was used to serve marron glace, chestnuts candied in sugar syrup and then glazed.
