Item Description

19th Century ‘Jupe' style extendable dining table stamped and numbered Maple & Co of London. This circular mahogany dining table has a segmented top supported on four turned and reeded legs. The table has four removable leaves that can be added, extending the diameter.

Maple & Co. was founded in 1841 by John Maple; a  British furniture manufacturer who became synonymous with supplying furniture to the aristocracy and royalty in both the United Kingdom and around the world.

Noted as one of the finest cabinet makers of the mid-19th Century, John Johnstone and Robert Jupe, trading as Johnstone, Jupe & Co., had been making high quality furniture together, specialising in tables and with a burgeoning reputation, they exhibited at all the major exhibitions. Notably London in 1851 and '62 and Paris in 1878.
