Item DescriptionEarly 19th Century Regency pair of fine 'lyre' fronted library armchairs in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster. The back flanked by scrolling arms and raised on Lyre-shaped mahogany frames with reeded details and turned front legs terminating in brass cups and casters. With button detail and fawn brown suede upholstery.
This Gillows pattern chair relates to 'Easy Chairs' supplied by Gillows of London and Lancaster for Hackwood Park, Basingstoke, Hampshire and listed in their 1813 Memorandum. Related chairs also feature in a number of Gillows early 19th Century room elevations preserved at the Victoria and Albert Museum
(E.47-1952).
