Jack Butler Yeats RHA, (1871-1957), son of the portrait painter and illustrator John Butler Yeats and brother to the poet William Butler Yeats, was the most important Irish painter of the 20th Century. His scenes of daily life and Celtic mythology contributed to the surge of nationalism in the Irish arts after the Irish war of Independence.
