Late 19th Century Italian carved marble and alabaster figural lamp depicting ‘Rebecca at the well’. Inspired by Nicholas Poussin’s painting ‘Eliezer and Rebecca’, painted for Pointel (1684), housed in the collection of the Louvre Museum. A Neoclassical reinterpretation of the Classical, imbued with symbolism, Rebecca is depicted with a vessel in her left hand adjacent to the well with satyr mask motif on fountain supported by corinthian column surmounted with patera, inscribed ‘Made in Italy’ numbered 183 and N 3 on obverse side, electrified.
